Small wonders

The four cylinder Perkins Syncro 2.8 litre provides a maximum of 55 kW (74 hp) with torque of 300 Nm for the turbocharged (T) model and 380 Nm for the turbocharged aftercooled (TA) version. The industrial 3.6 litre delivers 100 kW (134 hp) and up to 550 Nm of torque, while the agricultural tractor variant offers 530 Nm of torque and maintains 100 kW.

On noise, the new engines are 3 db quieter than the 3.4 litre 854 engine they replace, meaning OEMs can reduce their spend on sound insulation, or choose to improve the level of comfort for machine users.

2.    Packaging and integration

Because the Perkins Syncro engines draw maximum power from the smallest package, OEMs can downsize with ease. “Our aftertreatment sizes are small too, which reduces the engineering work required by OEMs and helps with packaging,” said Alex. We also offer engine-mounted aftertreatment on both engines, which means all parts are supplied and have been validated, giving OEMs the lowest installed cost. And because the 2.8 and 3.6 have been designed to be ‘brother and sister’ – with the same main interfaces and touch points – OEMs can power a range of equipment with very little change to their installation.

3.    Fluid consumption

We’ve achieved significant improvements on fluid consumption on both the 2.8 and 3.6 platforms. With the 2.8 achieving the maximum allowed power without requiring a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, you get a power-packed engine with no diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) required. Both the 2.8 litre and 3.6 litre options also deliver 10 percent better fuel economy than the engines they replace. All this, with no sacrifice on power.

4.    Preventative maintenance

Our Perkins Syncro engines require the minimum preventative maintenance, which makes it easy for customers to keep their engines in prime condition and ensures machine downtime is virtually non-existent. Key features include 500-hour service intervals, fit-for-life no-service aftertreatment, with transparent regeneration meaning no down time for the operator and side access for service points that keeps maintenance simple.

5.    Reliability and durability

Perkins Syncro engines have been extensively validated in agricultural machines. We’ve carried out endurance testing, cooling checks, air system flow checks and electrical checks.
