Perkins® 1700 and 2000 Series: serious power, your way

Perkins® 1700 and 2000 Series: serious power, your way

With an exceptional range of powerful 9-18 litre engines complementing our class-leading compact solutions, machine manufacturers can depend on Perkins to power their full range of machines and their ongoing success.

We support your objectives to build competitive and highly-productive machines with a complete range of engines designed to meet stringent emission standards, maximise uptime, provide maximum power in the smallest lightweight package, and reduce the cost and complexity of installation and operation.

Always looking to build on our success, and yours, we’re delivering new opportunities for engine manufacturers with our expanded range of 9-18 litre units. The introduction of four powerful platforms – the 9.3 litre 1700 Series, 12.5 litre 2400 Series, 15.2 litre 2500 Series and 18.1 litre 2800 Series – has more than doubled our power range to cover 8.2-597 kW (11-800 hp).

It’s a broad and sweeping power portfolio that means OEMs can enjoy Perkins proven performance and durability across the full range of their machines. And, by using just one supplier for all their engine needs, they can save themselves both time and money.

With a long and proud heritage in agriculture, Perkins understands the critical requirements of customers across the sector.

Adding value to your applications

Spencer Huhn, Perkins engineering manager for new product introductions, said: “We know what it takes to work alongside our customers as they continue to create differentiated and competitive machines.

“We’re confident that our 9-18 litre engine range, which offers flexibility for installation, simplification of the engine and aftertreatment, improved power density, reduced fuel consumption, and customised servicing options, will provide them with the right platform for their business growth.”

This impressive range of large and innovative engines offers meaningful benefits for agricultural customers.

“Our engines provide more dramatic torque rise to deliver optimised power at lower speed,” said Spencer. “We also offer specific power ratings for combine harvesters, forage harvesters and agricultural tractors. Developing these unique ratings for the agricultural sector is something that sets us apart from many competitors and underlines our commitment to this market.

“Customers can also benefit from an extensive list of factory options that allows you to customise your engine with a range of readily available attachment features. This minimises the time and cost of engineering the engine into the machine.

“For those looking for a more tailored solution, our expert engineers will work directly with you to define the necessary torque curve and critical performance characteristics you require, develop a new rating – and even validate it in your application.”

Latest generation engines

As OEMs’ needs evolve, so do our products. We’re constantly updating and improving our engines to keep them at the leading edge of performance and reliability. The most recent updates have been to our 1706D, 1706J and 2406J engines.

The 1706J is a 6 cylinder 9.3 litre unit that delivers an industry-leading maximum power rating of 340 kW (456 hp) and meets EU Stage V/U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final emissions standards. Recent advances include an updated common rail fuel system, simplified aftertreatment and removal of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). This has resulted in the engine’s aftertreatment being 39 percent smaller and 55 percent lighter. Power has been increased by up to 18 percent, total engine weight reduced by 12 percent and fuel consumption on a typical machine cycle cut by five percent.

The 1706D provides EU Stage 3 emissions standards without the use of aftertreatment. It shares a common footprint and most of its engine attachments with the 1706J to make life easier for OEMs installing the engine for different territories. Fuel consumption has been reduced by more than 10 percent in key portions of its operating range.

The 6 cylinder 12.5 litre 2406J builds on the success of our 1706J, again achieving market-leading power of 430 kW (577 hp). The average power rating has been increased by 15 percent with a compact aftertreatment and no EGR solution that maximises uptime. The engine is capable of torque and response only previously achievable on our 15 litre platform and at 32 percent less system weight.

“With these significant improvements, we’re adding value for our customers,” added Spencer. “We want our engines to help make every customer more successful.”
